Genesis 1:5
(8/27/05)
Gen 1:5 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Here is the hinge of perhaps the most controversial door of all time since the time of Moses, right up to today, how long is a day? Extending the day, or redefining the day to be years, or milleniums, or millions of years is common, once again is the result of our applying our limited understanding to the unlimited eternal knowledge and power of God. So, in case we didn't understand what the length of a day was supposed to be, God even defines it for us, the evening and the morning are the first day. Evening and Morning are not terms related to ages or eons or stratolayers or anything else, evening and morning classify Gods timing as clear as night and day.
There are many even within the religious community who try to conform ages of time into the six day creation, but there are serious problems with this, not only from the obvious standpoint, but from the doctrinal issues of the Bible right down to it's very foundation. I think one of the best clarifications on this comes from Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis, and I will take his point just one step further. All our hope through the works of Jesus Christ on the Cross is to be ressurected to an eternal life in a perfect world which the Bible describes much like the world God created for us here. Jesus Died on the cross because man had fallen, and when we fell, because the world and everything in it was created FOR US, the world then became corrupt also. Until man fell the Earth was perfect, there was no death or disease, because of this there was probably no fungus or mold or bacteria either as the functions of these things are more for recycling dead tissue. If God used ages of time to create creatures through evolution, then death had to be non existant all that time, yet it is the theory of evolution and the extinction of dinosaurs hundreds of millions of years ago which relies on the very fact of death and destruction. Therefore if you wish to believe in evolution and huge periods of time you are denying the very doctrine of mans fall and the reason for Jesus sacrifice, you may as well deny the rest of the Bible as well.
So many people, even those who say the day's of creation were actually larger periods of time, will still say they believe God could have created the universe in and instant, then why apply mans understanding to God's Word?
