Mold Remediation
Mold remediation is very expensive and there is no easy way around it, and no dependable short cuts. We ourselves lived in a home that had mold growing between the walls, and our entire family grew sick. We decided to try mold remediation ourselves, since the mold didn't seem to have any effect on me I dawned a respirator recommended for mold removal and goggles, and proceed to remove carpeting, relandscape the lawn to lead moisture away from the house, sealing the internal and external siding with the intent of sealing off the wall cavities and removal of cloth furnishings which can hold millions of mold spores per square inch of material. The end result was increased sporulation due to the drying out of the mold, which was intended by the relandscaping, a direct increase of spore saturated air due to the disturbance and removal of material items, and asthma and lung problems for me, the one who was until then unaffected. We moved from the house and into a newer house, but we have taken with us life long problems due to the experience. My wife developed Arthritis overnight at the same time we all suffered from the flu, two of my children and myself suffer with asthma, and my wife also shows some symptoms of possible Fibromyalgia.
The only way to remove mold from a home or building is by using qualified materials like Quaternary Ammonia to clean unremovable surfaces, and removal of all wood and porous materials. The only people who should try mold remediation are professionals who are trained and qualified in mold removal. Mold is not something to take lightly, it isn't something to experiment with, and if you ever experience the problem and sensitization of mold, you will find out that most of society doesn't know a thing about it, doesn't believe you, and they only way you will be taken seriously is by talking to someone who has experienced it, or if the people you are talking to experience it themselves.
Our local high school had a Histoplasmosis outbreak a few years back, this is an outbreak of illness due to the Histoplasma capsulatum mold spore. While insurance comanies are scramnling to write exclusions to mold damage, and our local head of health department was telling the public there was nothing to worry about because it is relatively harmless, men were cleaning the high school wearing space suits and using all kinds of equipment. Someone should have told these professionals they didn't need the space suits because it was harmless.
