Genesis 1:11-13
(9/14/05)
11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
Here we go with the light again. Those skeptics to disbelieve the Bible because God created light before he created the sun and moon, who say this cannot be true. They are trapped in the confines of science as man understands it and in this science light must be in the form of photons that emit from some energy burning device such as the sun. Things also grow in the sun light, but to what degree is their growth limited by a physical sun. Here is a supernatural spiritual being that can create or emit light just from His presence, and I would speculate to say that His light is not made up of little particles that provide a visio-electrical conductance to the human eye, but is a purer light, one eternally more beneficial to the growth of plants and grasses than the light from our feeble sun is. We know in the re-creation after this Heaven and earth pass away, and God creates a new Heaven and Earth, there will not be a sun or moon, but the earth will be lit by His presence.
I bring up the light at this point because in one day God created plants to grow and cover the face of a barren earth. Dirt and water with no life, no seed, just dirt and water. Then by the voice of God grass, trees, and herbs spring forth. I would also speculate to say that God did not create them in their full size, but rather watched them spring up as seedlings from His word, and with His light, and His nutritional presence, these things probably grew rapidly, and I believe God took the same kind of pleasure in watching the foliage grow and cover the earth as a child takes in watching water spread across a sidewalk, or a popsicle stick they place in the gutter water run-off, watching it progress toward it's destiny. God was watching His plan develop and was fulfilled with great pleasure in watching it happen. Because of Gods nutritional presence and pure light, I believe the plants grew to seed bearing size within the span of a single day because the verse says they are seed bearing plants and tree's, etc. Also because of the way it is worded, Let the earth bring forth grass, this is a command for the earth to bring forth the grass and other folaige where as in the creation of the animals, God creates them in whole and complete. The earth bringing forth the plant life is a natural order in which growth is normally required. God could have created everything in an instant, but He chose to let growth be a thing of nature. God could make us perfect followers of Him also but He, as in this example of the grass, chooses to allow time and maturity to work within each of us.
