Genesis 2
Verses 8-17
8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. 10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. 11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. 13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopiab. 14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth towardc the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. 15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
This group of verses I am not going to go into with great detail, there have been many disputes over where the Garden of Eden was located, and it is quite likely that after the flood much of what we now see and speculate as the original location of Eden may be completely changed.
I do need to take this chance to cover some ground though based on my concerns and my intentions in covering the creation of the Heavens and the earth, and to dispute the claims you are likely to face with people who seek to discredit the Bible as being accurate.
People use Chapter two of Genesis to show discrepancies in chapter one, but they have taken the sequence out of context. First off, through out chapter one, God creates the Heavens and the Earth and everything in them. The world is already created, it is full of tree's, and animals of every kind, and NOW in verse 8 God plants a garden and puts man in the garden. After He puts man in the garden God makes to grow from the ground every kind of tree that is good, and if you follow the sequence, He does this in the presence of Adam.
So God has placed Adam in the Garden of Eden, and in verses 15-17 He has instructed man to take care of the Garden, and commanded Him not to eat of the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil. In verse 17 God declares that if man eats of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, he will die in that day. Spiritually Adam died that very day, but a prophetic day may have been addressed for the first time in Adams life, but that will be covered in context of another issue, not our concern here.
This may appear to be a strange sequence of events, but I believe God did it this way for a very specific purpose which I will now address in the next page covering verses 18-20
