Why Study Biblical Prophecy

and Is it Important ?

Why Study Biblical Prophecy and is it important? Prophecy has long been controversial, misinterpreted, and it's importance put to question. Some say the important thing is our coming to faith in Christ to be our Savior, and too much focus has been put on the Prophecies, but I say Nay. I rarely hear good teachings on readings on prophecy because the focus IS on our Christian beliefs. On the contrary, I don't believe enough teaching has been done on prophecy, but maybe this is because there are so many misinterpretations on Biblical Prophecy, primarily that of Revelations, that no one wants to tackle it, being unsure of exactly what the true turns and twists are. So let's answer these questions.

1) Is it important? God thought so or it would not be there. God wanted us to know so much, He carried a man in spirit into heaven and gave John a series of very elaborate visions and was told to write it down. The only reason for writing it is to share with the world, to be a treasure for all time. Gods prophecy is always true, this is the test of a true prophet, therefore the Biblical prophecy, and their fulfilment is confirmation of the truth of Gods word which is important to us to realize His promise of salvation is true also.

2) Biblical Prophecy being fulfilled both excites and alarms us in a way which gives us drive to prepare ourselves for the times to come, which in turn strengthens our personal relationship with God the Father and our LORD Jesus Christ.

3)Jesus calls us to know the signs of the times:

  • Matt 16:2 - He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
  • Matt 16:3 - And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

Jesus calls the people hypocrites because they can tell when seasons are changing and what the weather conditions may be like, but they did not know the signs of the times and that the time was for Him to be there. Clearly He was somewhat distraught that they did not know the signs of the times.  This is what Prophecy is put in Gods word for, He wants us to know the signs of the times.

4) Probably not last, and definitely not least, by knowing biblical prophecy, we know where the world is headed. By knowing where the world is headed, we also know that it must be being manipulated by Satan at governmental levels. If we know what is coming, we should scrutinize every foreign policy and every new event we hear in the news as to what purpose or impact this decision may make on the global picture. We should be able to see through the deceptions, no matter how cleverly the devil presents it to us. Issues like Abortion, NAFTA, Legal Phone tapping of citizens in the name of spurring terrorist, etc. All of these issues are presented with seemingly compassionate reasons, but each one steers away from Freedom of choice and Gods perfection and toward manipulative control of the masses in every aspect of life, right down to population control, and probably an eventual control of family sizes, etc.

So, Why study Biblical prophecy ? Biblical Prophecy is very important to know. All Gods word is important to know because it came from God and is delivered to us. Think of it like this, would you watch a 2 hour mystery movie, then turn it off 5 minutes before the mystery is solved? No, not likely, we all love a beautiful ending, so why not finish the ending of the mystery of life? The book of The Revelation of Jesus Christ, not only reveals who Christ is in the scheme of things, but it gives us the end of the show, the final and beautiful ending to God's plan and purpose for all of creation.
