Gen 1:4 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
I absolutely love verse 4... I think there is more hidden in this verse than is obvious at first glance. First, God saw the light. Why are we told this? If you turn on a light in a dark room, of course the light is visible, and you can see what is in the room, but your impression or instinct is not to acknowledge the lights existance. God saw the light carries a natural implication that he is looking at the Light He has created, and He see's that it is good. This is a message to us, that we should also take time in reflection to admire the work God has done in His creation. In Romans 1:20 ...the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen,...so that we are without excuse
God clearly wants us to take pleasure in His work, and not only to take pleasure in it, but also to recognize his providential care, that He is Eternal in power, and constantly sustains everything we see. To see the beauty of the creation and how everything is in perfect balance and admire His authority and management skills,... His creation is hard to comprehend for us, but then most of us have a hard time balancing a checkbook....
I think here God also set an example for us as well that in the works we do, our job we work, chores we perform, these things should not be done because we are paid to do them, but rather we should take pleasure in our work. It doesn't matter what job you do, you can either be happy or you can be miserable, and through years of experience I think it has more to do with the individual than it does the place of work or the type of job. I have worked as a plant manager, a senior assistant manager for a retail chain, and I have also worked in a warehouse loading trucks all night long. You can take pride in your work and enjoy it, and work to perform your best contribution, and if you do this, I think you will find satisfaction in the job well done. I enjoyed working as a plant manager, I also enjoyed the heavy labor of warehouse work, even though the company had a "Your expendable" type attitude toward their employee's. Why? Because I dug in and worked hard, and at the end of each day I was satisfied and knew what I accomplished, and knowing that God was with me through the night. On the other hand, I've known many lazy people who have bounced from one job to another, and they are never happy, they are never satisfied, and even though some had high paying jobs, they were miserable.
