Genesis 1:6-8
(9/6/05)
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
This is the creation of the sky, to seperate the waters above the earth from the waters below the earth. Water is perhaps the most needed provision God has given to life, and remarkably it is also one of the few substances that exists in all three forms of matter solid, liquid, and gas, on the earth.
During the creation and until the flood of Noah, water only existed in liquid and gas form, the earth was a huge hydroponic terrarium. Moisture was thick in the atmosphere, and moisture in the atmoshpere is an insulating blanket, and we can see how it works in the world today. Places like Palm Springs California which has very dry air, can be in the hundred degree range during the day time in February, and at night drop below freezing, yet in the midwest and southern states, if it is in the 90's during the day time, it isn't likely to drop below the upper to mid 70's at night during the humid summer months.
