Having attended church with my family, I had a good foundation to build upon, and I came to believe in Jesus Christ as my savior at the age of 12. I accepted Christ and was Baptized at Hillside Baptist Church in La Mirada, CA. I was doing OK in school, my English was horrible and I hated it same as History and foreign language, but math and science I loved. Math came almost natural for me, without having to study I breezed through Algebra and Geometry, and after falling behind a little in science, (because it wasn't necessary for me to study any other class, I did not study here either), I realized I'd better read the book or else fail. So I read my chemistry book through out the day in all my classes, and when we took mid year finals, I achieved the 4th highest grade in the school on the finals. Why is this important? I loved science, and I was open to every scientific idea that came along.
Then came evolution, being taught in schools as fact. I looked at it as an interesting observation that had some level of viability, I mean look how similar so many species of animals there are, wow could it be possible? So I went to the religious experts, the ministers and others I knew and respected with questions. Is this possible? How does it fit into Genesis? How long was a day? Could Genesis be a poetic type story of creation since no one was here to witness the creation of the earth until man was created? No one had an answer that was scientifically suitable to me at this point in time, still in the 60's this theory just sort of popped into our school systems, and the religious leaders were not prepared to deal with it.
